Khusanov extends Manchester City contract
Abdukodir Khusanov endured a shaky start to life with Manchester City, but an impressive 2025-2026 season has earned him a new five-year deal at the Premier League giant.
The defender, who joined from Lens in January 2025, will remain with the club until 2031, after his previous deal was set to expire in June 2029.
Khusanov has made 47 appearances for City across all competitions, helping it win both the FA Cup and Carabao Cup last season.
The 22-year-old became a key part of City's defence alongside Marc Guehi for the second half of the 2025-2026 season, featuring in 16 of their past 19 Premier League games.
He also started in all three of Uzbekistan's group games at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
"This is a great day for me and my family – I am really happy to extend my stay at City," Khusanov said.
"I’ve enjoyed every minute since I arrived in Manchester and I feel I am growing and learning a lot as a player.
"I have a new challenge now, which is to impress Enzo Maresca and his staff and ensure I am in his team regularly. I am determined to do that.
"Thank you to the City fans for all of your support. It has been really important as I’ve settled in England and the Premier League.
"Now I am only looking forward. I’m ready to do everything I can to help this club be as a successful as possible."
City faces Inter Milan, Atletico Madrid and the K-League Stars in its first pre-season under new boss Enzo Maresca.
Its first competitive game of 2026-2027 comes against Arsenal in the Community Shield on 17 August (AEST), while its Premier League campaign starts a week later when it hosts Bournemouth.
