Petrovic's blunder sees Bournemouth remain winless
Djordje Petrovic's error gifted Kevin Schade an equaliser as Brentford held Bournemouth to a 2-2 draw in a Premier League thriller at Vitality Stadium.
The contest was a rollercoaster for both teams, with Schade netting twice for the visitors, while Justin Kluivert and Marcus Tavernier were on target for Marco Rose's Cherries, who remain without a win this term.
Igor Thiago headed wide inside two minutes and Keane Lewis-Potter sliced a right-footed off target, while Antonio Silva wasted a great chance at the other end.
Brentford's breakthrough came in the 34th minute as Schade headed in, with Petrovic making a mess of his attempted save.
Bournemouth was level just four minutes later, though, with Kluivert finding the bottom-right corner.
Alex Scott blazed over from a great position early in the second half, but Bournemouth was ahead when Evanilson took in a long ball, held the play up and found Tavernier, who duly finished.
However, a blunder from Petrovic saw Brentford restore parity. The goalkeeper played it directly to Schade, who lifted a cute strike into a gaping net.
Caoimhin Kelleher made a string of smart stops to keep Bournemouth at bay, with the woodwork coming to Brentford's rescue from Ben Gannon-Doak's deflected effort in stoppage-time.
Bournemouth will now prepare for a European debut as it travels to Real Sociedad in the UEFA Europa League next Friday (AEST) before hosting Liverpool three days later.
On his side's performance, Rose said: "We were behind for the first time this season, we reacted well, and lucky me, we didn't concede a late goal. We had more chances, more possession, we were the best team.
"Brentford is a tough opponent, they are good for second balls and have quite big guys and ballers as well. I liked how we competed, the way we defended in most situations. I like the way we attacked, our attitude. We were unlucky in a couple of situations, so we just get a point."
On Brentford's display, Bees boss Keith Andrews felt his side could havedone better.
"We did not hit the levels we set for ourselves," he said.
"We come to a difficult place. They play a very specific way, and it was difficult to deal with at times. Equally, we did not make life easier for ourselves by certain things we were doing. Overall, I think it's a point game."
Andrews was complimentary of Schade, however.
"He [Schade] was electric, he really was," Andrews said.
"The second he has come back in pre-season, the way he has attacked everything. He's in a good rhythm with his game. He looks very free at the moment, so long may that continue."
