Aussie Segecic scores again in Pompey draw
Australian midfielder Adrian Segecic scored for a second consecutive EFL Championship match, but his Portsmouth outfit was held to a 1-1 draw at Watford.
It was the 21 year-old former Sydney FC talent's fifth goal for Portsmouth this season, as he continues to press his claims for a spot in the Socceroos' 2026 FIFA World Cup squad.
The draw leaves Watford a single point above Stoke, after Mamadou Doumbia equalised 11 minutes from time for the Hornets, cancelling out Segecic's strike six minutes earlier.
Elsewhere, Middlesbrough returned to second place with a 2-1 comeback win at Stoke City, with Tommy Conway scoring the decisive goal.
Kim Hellberg's side was overtaken by Ipswich Town a day earlier as the Tractor Boys beat Bristol City 2-0, and with leader Coventry City also victorious, it remains nine points off top spot.
Boro fell behind to Tomas Rigo's 15th-minute strike, which bounced in front of goalkeeper Sol Brynn and squirmed past him.
Stoke, in the midst of an injury crisis, missed a couple of big chances to double its advantage, and it was made to pay in the second half.
Alan Browne made no mistake on the rebound after Hayden Hackney had a shot parried by Tommy Simkin three minutes into the second half, then Conway found the net on the turn from Browne's cross 11 minutes later.
Stoke defender Bosun Lawal saw red for two bookable offences late on as the Potters missed the chance to climb back into the play-off places. They sit eighth in the table, while Boro are two points clear of third-placed Ipswich.
In the final match of the day, Sheffield United slipped to a third successive defeat, going down 1-0 to Southampton at St Mary's.
Leo Scienza's seventh-minute strike, which deflected in off Oli Arblaster, was enough for the Saints to earn their first win since 9 December, pulling them four points clear of Sheffield United.
