Muller urges Bayern to keep an eye on Manzambi
Johan Manzambi has announced himself on the 2026 FIFA World Cup stage for Switzerland, with Thomas Muller hinting he could fit in at Bayern Munich.
Manzambi scored a brace after coming off the bench against Bosnia-Herzegovina to help the Swiss to a 4-1 win.
At 20 years and 247 days, he became the youngest player in FIFA World Cup history to score at least two goals in a game as a substitute and the first player to do so for Switzerland.
For Freiburg last term, Manzambi scored seven goals in 47 appearances, and also registered six assists from 31 chances created.
Muller was particularly impressed by what he saw from Manzambi in Switzerland's second game, prompting him to send out a message to his former club.
"For me, he is someone, and now we can make a headline: that FC Bayern should also look at," Muller said while working as a pundit on the FIFA World Cup.
Manzambi came through the Freiburg academy, making his first-team debut in August 2024, and he has gone on to make 58 appearances overall.
He scored in its UEFA Europa League semi-final second leg clash against Braga to help seal a 3-1 and progress to the final, which it lost to Aston Villa, but Manzambi was named as the young player of the tournament.
When asked about Muller’s comments after the match, Manzambi said: "I'm still in Freiburg. I'm focused on the [2026 FIFA] World Cup. I don't know what I'll be doing next season."
