Magda Linette gave Iga Swiatek an early scare, but the French Open favourite ultimately breezed into round four in Paris.

Swiatek is in the hunt for her fifth title at Roland-Garros, though she had to overcome an early wobble against her compatriot to win 6-4 6-4 on Friday.

Linette got on the front foot with an immediate break of serve, but Swiatek instantly hit back.

Swiatek could not put distance between herself and her opponent, though, with Linette breaking again to drag herself level at 3-3.

Yet Linette gave up a break point when she double-faulted, enabling Swiatek to pounce and make it 5-4 with a sublime forehand winner.

Swiatek rediscovered her composure on serve to take the first set, and followed that up with two early breaks to take a 4-1 lead in the second, with Linette unable to recover.

The six-time grand slam champion will now go up against Marta Kostyuk in the last 16, after the Ukrainian beat Viktorija Golubic 6-4 6-3.

Swiatek holds a pristine 4-0 record against Kostyuk.

Swiatek is the sixth woman in the Open Era to reach the last 16 at Roland-Garros on each of her first eight main draw appearances at the event, and the first since Monica Seles.

She now holds the ninth-highest winning percentage in women's singles grand slam events in the Open Era (83.46%, 111-22), surpassing Justine Henin (83.43%, 141-28).

Kostyuk, meanwhile, is the fifth player this century to win her first 15 clay court matches of the season after Venus Williams (2004), Henin (2005), Serena Williams (2012 and 2013) and Swiatek (2022).
