Amorim says Milan is still far from its potential
AC Milan is unbeaten in Serie A under Ruben Amorim, but the Portuguese coach knows there are still plenty of things to improve upon as he looks forward to the return of club football after an extended international break.
Milan has won three of its opening five league games in 2026-2027, drawing the other two to sit fifth on the league table, two points behind leader Roma.
Milan made a losing start to its UEFA Europa League campaign, though, after a 2-0 defeat at home to Benfica.
Amorim acknowledged there are plenty of improvements needed when his squad returns from the international break.
"We try to dominate the games consistently; we play well at times, but there's still a lot of work to do," Amorim said.
"I don't like to hear people talk about this Milan as Amorim鈥檚 Milan. Milan is Milan.
"The club has a story and an identity that go beyond a coach鈥檚 name. I want to see a team with an identity that can win even when things don鈥檛 run perfectly.
"We are still far from our potential, but we need time and continuity. We have many games, we must win and improve at the same time, it's not easy.
"Many things are missing; I can say it without any problem. I think we have to improve as a team to create more chances."
Milan faces Sassuolo in its first Serie A game after the international break before taking on Salzburg in the UEFA Europa League.
