Vergara and Gutierrez send Napoli third
Antonio Vergara and Miguel Gutierrez were on target as injury-hit Napoli beat struggling Fiorentina 2-1 to move up to third in Serie A.
A run of one win in five matches put pressure on Napoli's place in the top four, but they got an important three points at Stadio Diego Armando Maradona on Saturday to move them above Roma, who play Udinese on Monday.
Napoli, who remain without several key players, got off to a great start when Vergara raced onto a long punt from Alex Meret and slotted a fine finish past David de Gea into the bottom-right corner.
Fiorentina's Roberto Piccoli hit the upright before Napoli captain Giovanni Di Lorenzo went off with a left knee injury that Antonio Conte will hope is not serious.
Vergara turned provider four minutes into the second half, laying the ball off for Gutierrez to curl the ball home from the right side of the box.
Fiorentina responded well, though, and drew level when Manor Solomon scored his first goal for the club on the follow-up after Meret denied Piccoli.
Moise Kean caused problems after coming off the bench for the visitors, but they were unable to make their late pressure count and remain one point adrift of safety.
