After missing a host of chances in the first half, Ramos eventually found the target with his eighth attempt, burying a 69th-minute finish into the bottom-right corner to open his Serie A account.

As the away side searched for an equaliser, Milan broke on the counter and doubled its lead one minute from time after Redouane Halhal converted into his own net.

That all came after an entertaining first half, with Amorim's men almost taking the lead inside 53 seconds. Ruben Loftus-Cheek did well to race down the right before his centre was scuffed wide by Ramos.

Ramos should have given Milan the lead in the 12th minute, but after being slipped in by Samuel Chukwueze, the striker's one-v-one close-range attempt was thwarted by Filip Stankovic's strong right hand.

Venezia had its first opportunity in the 19th minute with John Yeboah threading an exquisite pass into the path of Akor Adams, but the Nigerian's shot from a tight angle was safely smothered by Mike Maignan.

Former Paris Saint-Germain forward Ramos had another chance on goal, but he was wasteful again as his tame attempt was repelled by Stankovic at the near post.

However, the Portugal international made no mistake in the second half as he latched on to Alexis Saelemaekers's threaded pass before rifling an expert strike home.

It got better for Milan as substitute Saelemaekers released Ardon Jashari straight down the middle, with Stankovic saving the attacker's attempt before the rebound ricocheted off Halhal and into the net.
