Modric outlines his AC Milan vision after signing on
Luka Modric has signed a one-year contract extension with AC Milan, ensuring he will continue playing in Serie A until at least the age of 41.
The 40 year-old, who started all four of Croatia's games as they suffered a round-of-32 exit at the World Cup, joined the Rossoneri as a free agent last year.
Modric had spent the previous 13 years with Real Madrid, counting six Champions Leagues among the 28 trophies he won with Los Blancos.
The midfielder made 34 Serie A appearances for Milan last season, 32 of which were starts, registering two goals and three assists while creating 51 chances – one shy of the team's top creator Alexis Saelemaekers.
He was unable to lead the Rossoneri to Champions League qualification, though, as a late-season slump saw them finish fifth and miss out on a place at Europe's top table.
Massimiliano Allegri was subsequently sacked and replaced by former Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim, who will be able to call upon Modric for 2026-2027.
"I'm thrilled to continue to be part of AC Milan, where you've made me feel welcomed and loved since the very first day," Modric said in a post to the club's Instagram account.
"After a season below our expectations, the desire to bounce back is immense. A new season and a new challenge await us; a project I believe in and one that truly motivates me.
"I'm ready to give everything once again for this shirt, and I'm so proud to keep wearing these colours.
"I can't wait to return to San Siro and hear your roar. See you soon. Forza Milan sempre!"
Milan will face Celtic, Inter Milan, Chelsea and Manchester United in high-profile friendlies before kicking off its Serie A campaign on 23 August, away at Torino.
Milan was not involved in Europe at all last term, having finished eighth in Serie A the season before Modric's arrival. They will play in the Europa League next campaign.
