Brighton chief reveals secret to club's success
Brighton and Hove Albion chief executive Paul Barber insists the club doesn't fear losing players or coaches, as it has succession plans in place.
The Seagulls are flying high under manager Fabian Hurzeler this season, sitting third in the Premier League after five games.
They thrashed reigning champion Arsenal 3-0 before the international break, and also reached the Round of 16 in the Carabao Cup with a thrilling comeback win over Manchester United.
They are the highest scorers in the Premier League this season, with their 16 goals the most by a side in their first five games since Manchester City in 2022-2023, when it scored 19.
The likes of Maxim De Cuyper, Charalampos Kostoulas and Malick Yalcouye have impressed for the Seagulls, while Pascal Gross also won the Premier League player of the month award for September.
"If we do well, it's because our players and coaches are doing well. And if that happens, they're going to be on someone else's radar," Barber said.
"We've been through that loop many times before, but that's our model. We don't fear it – we have succession plans in place on and off the field."
Brighton and Hove Albion could also lift some European silverware this season as it is participating in the UEFA Conference League.
Three of the five editions of the competition have been won by English teams, including each of the past two – Chelsea is 2025 and Brighton rival Crystal Palace last season.
"Our club and staff have been through a lot. We have no divine right to win something this year, but everyone is working very hard towards it," Barber added.
"I wouldn't want to put that pressure on us, but we're aware of how well English teams have done, not only in this competition but in the UEFA Europa League and UEFA Champions League.
"There is an expectation with being a Premier League club. You may have better resources and arguably players, but that doesn't guarantee any result. You've got to earn it."
