Parish reveals truth behind Sarr's failed move

Sarr was linked with a late move to the Reds as they aimed to strengthen the right side of their attack after Mohamed Salah's departure.

The Senegal international registered 21 goals for Palace in all competitions last term, leading it to the UEFA Conference League title.

He has netted 33 goals and provided eight assists in 94 appearances across all competitions for Palace since joining the south London club in 2024, earning him interest from Liverpool.

But Parish said Palace did not consider the proposed fee from Liverpool remotely sufficient to sanction a departure to Anfield.

"It's unfortunate for Ismaila, but that wasn't really a situation that was of our doing," Parish said.

"A club came in and, with the amount of money they bid, they couldn't seriously think in that market it was going to get done at that level.

"If you're selling players for £90 million, and then you want to bid us half of that for the replacement, it's fine, you can do it. But it's never going to happen."

Liverpool's move for Sarr came after failing in its attempt to sign Brighton and Hove Albion's Yankuba Minteh, while it also attempted to lure Yan Diomande and Ibrahim Mbaye to Anfield.

Sarr had also attracted interest from Turkiye earlier in the window, with Palace rejecting an offer reportedly worth around £26 million ($49 million) from Galatasaray.

Palace remains in a strong negotiating position should Liverpool or another club renew its interest in January, given he has three years remaining on his current contract.

Sarr missed Palace's first four games of the 2026-2027 campaign because of a groin injury, but has since returned off the bench for its win over Lech Poznan and a commendable draw with Leeds United before the international break.
