Isak on target again as Liverpool breaks home drought
Alexander Isak scored for the third Premier League game running as Liverpool snapped Brighton's brilliant form with a 2-0 win at Anfield.
Brighton went into the contest flying high in third place after a run of four straight league wins, which came by an aggregate score of 15-0.
Yet the Seagulls had their wings clipped as Liverpool raced into a 2-0 lead by the 21st minute.
Matters might have been much different had Yasin Ayari put away an early chance for the visitor, but the Sweden international sliced over a gaping goal.
Brighton was swiftly punished, with Florian Wirtz's wayward effort diverting in off the unfortunate Pascal Gross.
Isak continued his fine form as he nudged in from Bradley Barcola's cross. The former Newcastle United striker has netted in three straight league games for the first time since January 2025, when he went on a run of eight matches with a goal.
Ayari struck the woodwork after a bad error from Alisson Becker, but Brighton's attack was blunted after the break.
Maxim De Cuyper had his side's best chance, but found his path to goal blocked by substitute Trey Nyoni, who had just replaced the injured Wirtz.
Liverpool's day almost got better when Luka Vuskovic thumped an overhit back-pass towards his own goal, but Bart Verbruggen was on hand to spare his blushes and minimise the damage for Fabian Hurzeler's team.
