San Diego FC 0-5 Philadelphia Union: Teenage sensation Sullivan stars again in MLS rout
The Philadelphia Union have extended their unbeaten run in MLS to 10 games with a big win over San Diego FC at Snapdragon Stadium.
The sixteen-year-old was joined on the scoresheet by Bruno Damiani and Malik Jakupovic, while Anibal Godoy netted an own goal as the Union recorded back-to-back 5-0 wins in MLS.
San Diego were given a reprieve in first-half stoppage time as Ian Murphy's red card for violent conduct was overturned by VAR, but the Union still scored before the break as Sullivan turned in Indiana Vassilev's cross with a backheel.
And the teenager made it 2-0 just after the hour, firing through the goalkeeper's leg from a tight angle, with Vassilev once again the provider.
Sullivan and Frankie Westfield were credited with the assist for Damiani's striker six minutes later, with the striker turning in from Westfield's low centre.
Godoy headed into his own net in the 87th minute, while Jakupovic wrapped up the win in stoppage time with a simple tap-in inside the six-yard box.
Elsewhere, Western Conference leaders Vancouver Whitecaps lost 2-1 to Austin FC after Christian Ramirez's brace.
The New England Revolution also won on the road, defeating the Chicago Fire 2-1 at Soldier Field.
Philadelphia keep rolling under Richter
It was a dominant performance from Philadelphia, who accumulated 2.75 expected goals (xG) from 21 shots while restricting San Diego to 1.21 from their 10 attempts.
The Union are now unbeaten in their 10 MLS games (W7 D3) under Ryan Richter since the World Cup break, moving them up to seventh in the Eastern Conference.
And Sullivan has played a key role in Philadelphia's form as he seeks a United States call-up.
Sullivan has directly contributed to 12 goals (five goals, seven assists) across his last seven games, with the Union also keeping a clean sheet across their last three.
Against San Diego, Sullivan recorded the most touches in the box (seven) for Philadelphia, most passes in the final third (20) and won possession joint-most often (five).
