Raphinha and Yamal star as Barcelona thumps Rayo
Lamine Yamal opened his account for the 2026-2027 season in style with a sublime double in Barcelona's 5-2 rout of Rayo Vallecano.
Yamal had not managed to score in either of Barca's opening two LaLiga fixtures, but the 19 year-old superstar ended his wait with a pair of stunners on Tuesday.
However, Barca did not have it all its own way at Camp Nou, where Raphinha also doubled up.
Rayo, which finished an impressive eighth last season but is winless so far this campaign, took a surprise lead when Sergio Camello steered home from Alvaro Garcia's cutback in the 12th minute.
Barca was level seven minutes later, though, with Raphinha's clever footwork seeing him get the better of his marker before he fired in an equaliser.
Yamal then came to the fore with a trademark left-footed strike into the top-right corner from the edge of the box.
Joules Kounde had a goal disallowed for offside, but Barca did go 3-1 up early in the second half when Florian Lejeune turned into his own net.
Yet Camello's second – a smart header from Unai Lopez's corner – reduced the arrears. Barca, though, restored their two-goal cushion when Anthony Gordon's backheel teed up Raphinha to slam a low finish across Rayo goalkeeper Dani Cardenas.
Yamal capped off a fine win for the reigning champion late on, drilling another long-range strike into the corner.
