The Bournemouth midfielder led the USA at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, where it was knocked out in the Round of 16 by Netherlands.
Pochettino names Tyler Adams as new USA captain
After Tim Ream's retirement from international football, Tyler Adams will once again wear the armband for United States.
Mauricio Pochettino's side reached the same stage this year when it co-hosted the tournament with Canada and Mexico, and he believes Adams is the right person to lead the team through the next FIFA World Cup cycle.
"I think [we're] so happy to announce and for everyone to know that he's going to be our leader and our captain," Pochettino said about Adams.
"I think we've been [in] a very good relationship in the last two years. I think we were talking a lot, and I think he knows what I expect, and he's a perfect role model for everyone in the way that the philosophy, the future, representing that amazing country.
"I think he's the player and the person that can lead that period that we have ahead. And I [say] congratulations."
The USA has impressed during this international window, following up a 4-1 win over Peru with a 4-2 victory over Chile.
Next up for Pochettino's side is a clash with CONCACAF rival Mexico, and the former Tottenham Hotspur boss feels a tough atmosphere at State Farm Stadium will help his team grow.
"I think this type of adversity is a good example," he said.
"I celebrate to have this type of game, to play in a difficult atmosphere, and I think that for sure is going to help for the future."
