The decision comes after back-to-back defeats to Southampton and West Brom, which have left the Hammers in eighth, six points behind league leader Middlesbrough.

Nuno took charge of West Ham in September 2025 after the dismissal of Graham Potter, but failed to keep the club in the Premier League after being relegated on the final day of 2025-2026.

He won 19 of his 53 games in charge of the Hammers, seeing his side score 90 goals and concede 80 in those matches.

His 35.9 win percentage as West Ham boss is the second-lowest of any team he has managed, behind Rio Ave, which was his first head-coach role.

"West Ham United can confirm that men's first-team Head Coach Nuno Espirito Santo has left his position with immediate effect," West /ham's statement read.

"Following a thorough review of the start to the EFL Championship season, the Board of Directors believe that a change is necessary at this time in order to ensure that the club’s objectives and expectations remain on track."

West Ham is back in Championship action on Thursday, when it travels to Cardiff City.

Widespread reports have emerged suggesting Scott Parker is set to be named as Nuno's successor.

Parker, who made 129 appearances for the Hammers as a player, was sacked by Burnley in April, but has plenty of experience in the Championship.

He has presided over the promotion of three clubs to the Premier League: Fulham, Bournemouth and Burnley.
