Ngakia rocket boosts Watford's play-off hopes
A sensational second-half goal from Jeremy Ngakia sealed a 2-1 win for Watford on the road as it beat Bristol City at Ashton Gate to move up to seventh on the EFL Championship table, just three points shy of the play-off places.
Ngakia fired home a stunning piledriver 13 minutes from time after the ball broke to him outside the box, ahd he left Robins keeper Radek Vítek with absolutely no chance of stopping it.
Watford had gone ahead early in the first half through Luca Kjerrumgaard, who found the roof of the net from close range in the seventh minute after good work from Giorgi Chakvetadze on the left wing.
Australia's Nestory Irakunda almost doubled the Hornets' lead just after the half hour with a stunning effort of his own from range, but it curled millimetres wide of the top right corner with Vitek well beaten.
Barely five minutes later, the hosts drew level after a pacey cross from Adam Randell was nodded home at close range by Scott Twine.
Irankunda had a second chance to put Watford ahead just after the hour when he tried to deflect Chakvetadze's cross home, but the Socceroos star guided a difficult chance over the bar.
But it mattered not after Ngakia's breathtaking winner, which left Bristol City disappointed in its own chase for the play-offs, stuck in ninth place on 50 points and watching the Hornets leapfrog it into seventh on 51 points with their first win at Ashton Gate since March 2012.
