Coventry moves eight points clear in Championship
Coventry City moved eight points clear at the top of the EFL Championship with a 2-0 win over Bristol City, with both sides reduced to 10 men.
Tatsuhiro Sakamoto opened the scoring for Frank Lampard's side in the 37th minute, but Joel Latibeaudiere received a straight red card just six minutes later after hauling back Emil Riis.
Coventry still finished the first half on top, with Haji Wright netting his sixth goal in five games in the sixth minute of first-half stoppage-time.
Bristol was unable to mount a comeback, especially when the numbers were evened out again after Adam Randell received his second booking just 11 minutes into the second half.
Wright has now scored in his past three Championship games and his 16th goal of the season helped secure another vital three points.
Coventry has now won its past five league games, its best winning streak since November 2025, and it completed its first league double over Bristol City since 2021-2022.
"It was a brilliant performance, the circumstances again were challenging and it was a difficult start," Lampard said.
"But the second goal was crucial to the game, crucial to our mindset, crucial to give us something to hang on to.
"The way the lads dealt with the second half was outstanding from all of them on the pitch, with great character and great spirit. We showed another side, which we have to show if we're going to get to where we want to."
Robins boss Gerhard Struber rued his side's missed opportunities.
"Again, we saw the same story. The goals we conceded were a little bit cheap and we were not sharp enough in the opposition box," he said.
"We are not happy at the moment with how we are in front of the goal. I think we have enough power to score more goals and this is a big issue."
