Millwall into second after dramatic win at Boro
Josh Coburn scored a double as Millwall came from behind to beat Middlesbrough 2-1 in a potentially crucial clash in the EFL Championship promotion race.
Boro was hoping to consolidate its grip on second place, but Millwall surged over the top of the hosts ahead of the rest of the day's action.
Coburn was the hero as his goals turned the match on its head at Riverside Stadium, where the hosts missed plenty of chances.
Boro hit the front after 26 minutes when Dael Fry headed home from Alan Browne's deep cross.
Yet Boro's failure to clear its lines from a set-piece proved costly in the 58th minute, as Coburn's acrobatic close-range attempt crossed the line.
After some last-ditch defending at the other end, Millwall struck the decisive blow when Coburn coolly curled into the right-hand corner in the 86th minute.
"[Middlesbrough is] a really good side but what we are is even when we're not playing well, we stay in games," Lions boss Alex Neil said.
"What we can do when we get our foot on the ball and show a little bit of composure is we can create opportunities and score goals because we've got guys at the top end of the pitch that can finish.
"I thought today when the chances came along, we took them."
Boro manager Kim Hellberg rued his side's missed opportunities.
"It hurts a lot," he said.
"Sometimes it feels like some higher power up there tests us so much and we have to be strong.
"In many ways, I'm thinking this was a performance that should have killed the game off and been dead and buried after 60 minutes, 4-0 or 5-0.
"The boys were doing it unbelievably good after coming back one or two days ago against a good side, so it's tough."
