Hull boss emotional after sealing play-off spot
Hull City booked its place in the EFL Championship play-offs on the final day of the season at the expense of Wrexham, and boss Sergej Jakirovic was over the moon with his side's dramatic entry into the top six.
The Tigers finished sixth in the league after a 2-1 victory over Norwich City on the final day of the season, with Ausralia's Mo Toure afain netting for the Canaries to put them in front on the day.
A brace from Olie McBurnie helped the Tigers come from a goal down at MKM Stadium, with Hull now facing Millwall in a two-legged tie for a spot in the final at Wembley Stadium.
Jakirovic was delighted with Hull's achievement, especially after being a goal down.
"It's a great feeling, especially after 90 or 96 minutes," he said.
"We saw Wrexham didn't beat Middlesbrough and it was enough to win 2-1.
"It is emotional for us because we have achieved something our chairman has dreamt about. For the lads as well, I'm very proud of them because they have shown a great mentality.
"It was not easy to play this game as we needed a win and for example, after 10 or 15 minutes we were eighth in the table.
"But OK, this is football, everything is possible and we gave everything to win this game. Mission complete."
Hull finished sixth at the expense of Wrexham, which drew 2-2 with Middlesbrough at The Racecourse Ground.
Victory for Phil Parkinson's side would have seen it finish in the play-off places on goal difference, but it was unable to get the job done.
"I am completely gutted by today's result but incredibly proud of our season," Wrexham co-owner Ryan Reynolds wrote on X.
"We've come a long way in five years and this was the best result in our 150+ year history.
"More to do. But for now, we have so much to be proud of, Reds."
