Managerless Boro pinches a point off Oxford
Middlesbrough came away from Kassam Stadium with a point having gone behind to Oxford United, a 1-1 draw keeping it second place in the EFL Championship after third-placed Stoke City slipped up at Leicester City.
Luke Harris put Oxford ahead just before the half-hour when Luke Harris met a cross from Jack Currie sweetly after running into the box at pace.
But Boro found a way back through Morgan Whittaker on 54 minutes, and that's how the scores remained up to full-time.
Boro, who lost manager Rob Edwards to Wolverhampton Wanderers, again had interim boss Adi Viveash in the dugout, and he was frustrated that his side didn't make the most of its chances.
"The reality is that certainly in attacking areas, we didn't have enough of the quality moments, we didn't have the final action, final pass, cross, finish," Viveash said.
"Some key moments went against us and in the Championship you need certain things to go your way, especially away from home.
"It was a great goal [by Whittaker]. Unfortunately we had two or three more [opportunities] where we were in the same position and just missed the cross.
"Nineteen shots, three on target, that number needs to be higher if you're going to win a Championship game."
Boro is reportedly set to appoint Kim Hellberg to the full-time manager's position this week, provided he can secure a work permit for the role.
