Kompany seeks balance between attack and defence
Vincent Kompany believes Bayern Munich "need to find a balance" between attack and defence amid their recent struggles in the Bundesliga.
Bayern have gone two Bundesliga matches without a win (D1 L1) for the first time since March 2025; they dropped more points in these two games (five) than in the first 18 matchdays combined (four).
The last time they had a longer run of winless Bundesliga games was in January 2023 under Julian Nagelsmann (three).
Bayern's lead on Borussia Dortmund has been cut to just three points, ahead of the defending champions hosting third-place Hoffenheim on Sunday.
"My role is to look at everything very closely," said Kompany. "The fact we're scoring lots of goals is part of my role. Wanting to concede as few goals as possible is also part of my role.
"We don't like conceding, but we remain the best defence in Germany. We need to find a balance, to do better, but also that nobody is doing it better than us.
"We need to look at things in that context, whether it's down to the number of games or if it's the structure.
"We always try to be proactive. We've scored 74 goals. That's the other side of it. That should be seen as acceptable. It's not black or white."
Bayern received a boost during the week after it was announced Serge Gnabry had signed a new deal with the club.
The winger has scored six goals and registered five assists in 15 Bundesliga appearances this season.
"Serge has often showed his qualities. In addition, he's very important in the changing room," added Kompany.
"He has a special role, also off the pitch. I appreciate his role. We believe that he can continue to do what he's been doing of late in the coming years as well."
