Former professional tennis player Nick Lindahl has admitted to a match-fixing charge relating to a contest on the Futures circuit in 2013.

Lindahl, who twice featured in the first round of the Australian Open, pleaded guilty to a corrupt betting charge at Burwood Local Court on Monday, but denied a second charge that he concealed evidence of match-fixing. Two other charges were dropped by prosecutors.

The sport of tennis is still reeling from a joint investigation by the BBC and BuzzFeed News, which alleged authorities failed to act upon repeated warnings regarding claims of match-fixing involving a number of players on the professional circuit.

Lindahl's case relates to a match at the Toowoomba Futures Six tournament in September 2013.

The court heard Lindahl offered to "tank the match" in exchange for a payment from his opponent, who declined the approach and reported it to officials.

Betting on the tie was suspended by one agency due to the unusually large number of bets being placed and Lindahl was subsequently arrested in 2015.

Prosecutor Kate Young told the court: "Mr Lindahl advised two other people ... that he was going to tank the tennis match or lose the tennis match, and in providing that information to those people they were able to place bets to advantage themselves."

The case has been adjourned until April 15, when a decision will be handed down.
