2019 Rugby World Cup Dates Released
The 2019 Rugby World Cup will start on September 20 in Tokyo and finish with Yokohama hosting the final on November 2.
On the week that will see the winners of the 2015 Rugby World Cup decided, dates for the 2019 event in Japan have been announced.
World Rugby confirmed on Tuesday that the tournament's opening match is set to take place in Tokyo on September 20, while Yokohama will host the final on November 2.
The logo for Japan 2019 - featuring a rising sun and Mount Fuji - was also released as Brett Gosper, Rugby World Cup Limited's managing director, expressed optimism over the next edition of the tournament.
Japan famously shocked two-time champions South Africa at the start of this year's event, which will conclude at Twickenham on Saturday with a final between reigning champions New Zealand and Australia.
"We couldn't be more pleased with how England 2015 has succeeded. We believe it has succeeded at every level," said Gosper.
"Possibly the greatest story of 2015 has been the success of the Japanese team. The Japan-South Africa game, I'm sure they'll make Hollywood films of that one day as they did with the Miracle on Ice.
"This has been the most competitive World Cup ever and I think the performance of the Japanese inspired all the other tier-two teams so we had the smallest winning margins in World Cup history.
"I'm sure 2019 will break records in some areas but it will be ground-breaking. It will look very different, feel very different and will sound different to any World Cup we have ever had."
Akira Shimazu, chief executive of the RWC 2019 organising committee, also made reference to the world of film as he challenged Japan to build on their impressive showings in England.
"A very inspiring movie called Invictus was made based on South Africa winning the 1995 World Cup," said Shimazu.
"Hopefully we can do similarly in 2019 to inspire Invictus II: the Japanese version."
