Australia Show No Mercy For West Indies In Second Day Of Boxing Day Test
The second day of the Boxing Day Test was as one-sided as expected, as Australia mercilessly piled the pressure on West Indies.
Australia captain Steve Smith returned to the crease with Adam Voges on Sunday for the second day of the Boxing Day Test against West Indies.
By the end of the day, six wickets had fallen, but none belonged to the Australians.
Smith and Voges batted out 45 overs and built Australia's tally from 345-3 to 551-3 in less than four hours of play, both scoring centuries in the process before Smith declared.
Smith continued a stellar 2015, finishing on 134 not out, while Voges notched 106 runs before the declaration, taking his total for the series to a remarkable 375 not out.
Josh Hazlewood started the attack for Australia, as Smith set up an attacking field to hunt down the wickets of openers Kraigg Brathwaite and Rajenda Chandrika.
It only took 15 overs for the first to fall, as Nathan Lyon (2-18) took the first of two wickets, forcing an inside edge from Brathwaite (17) into the hands of Joe Burns.
James Pattinson (2-36) got the next when he trapped Chandrika (25) lbw to put the Windies in trouble at 50-2.
It went from bad to worse when Pattinson got his second lbw to bowl Marlon Samuels for a duck just three balls later, although replays showed the umpire's decision - which Samuels did not review - was questionable.
Lyon was back among the wickets when he caught and bowled Jermaine Blackwood (28), who had previously survived a tight call from the third umpire after a lovely Peter Siddle ball was seemingly caught very low by Burns, only for the third umpire to judge the ball had touched the ground.
Siddle (2-19) would not be denied again as he took two wickets from two balls, first snatching Danesh Ramdin's for a duck via a Burns catch and then clean bowling Windies captain Jason Holder for a golden duck.
Darren Bravo (13) and Carlos Brathwaite (3) survive heading into day three, with the Windies at 91-6, 460 behind Australia's 551.
