Kvitova crashes out
Ekaterina Makarova upset 10th seed and former champion Petra Kvitova to earn a third-round tie with Barbora Strycova.
A day of upsets at Wimbledon continued as 10th seed Petra Kvitova was beaten in straight sets by Russian Ekaterina Makarova.
The 26-year-old Czech, who won the tournament in 2011 and 2014, was looking to recover from losing the first set during a rain-interrupted afternoon session on Friday.
But instead she hit 43 unforced errors and found herself edged out by Makarova in a little under two hours, the left-hander winning 7-5 7-6 (7-5).
The world number 35, who reached the last eight at Wimbledon two years ago, will now face another Czech in Barbora Strycova.
Strycova, 30, secured her place in the third round by recovering from a set down to defeat Estonia's Anett Kontaveit.
Makarova and Strycova also met at Wimbledon in 2009, when Makarova secured a 7-5 2-6 6-3 first-round victory.
