French Open: Zverev soars past Machac into round three at Roland-Garros
Alexander Zverev made it six straight sets without reply at the 2026 French Open, with a dominant display against Tomas Machac on Wednesday.
Alexander Zverev continued his dominant start to this year's French Open with another straight-sets victory over Tomas Machac.
The 2024 Roland-Garros finalist, who has now reeled off six sets without reply, took just under two hours to wrap up a commanding 6-4 6-2 6-2 win on Court Philippe-Chatrier.
Zverev has only failed to reach round three once in his 10 previous French Open appearances, and a break in the opening game proved enough to give him the first set.
The German, also a three-time losing semi-finalist at the clay-court major, then broke with his first two attempts to take control of the second set.
Another two breaks followed in the third set as he made it six in a row this week, to set up a third-round clash with home favourite Quentin Halys.
Casper Ruud, a French Open finalist in 2022, was also a straight-sets winner, as the Norwegian overcame Hamad Medjedovic 6-3 6-2 6-4.
Data Debrief: Zverev moves level with Connors and Monfils
Zverev notched his 40th match win at the French Open – moving level with Jimmy Connors and Gael Monfils – with only David Ferrer (44) now having claimed more match victories without winning the event.
The German did so in style, too, with 19 aces, while hitting 45 winners with just 17 unforced errors.
Zverev recorded seven love games and won 85% of points on his first serve (40 of 47), as well as 78% of points on his second serve (14 of 18).
