After another Manchester United failure, Amorim says: "We were the better team on the pitch"
Rúben Amorim, manager of Manchester United, said after the 1–0 defeat against Tottenham Hotspur in the UEFA Europa League final at San Mamés, that his side was “the better team on the pitch.” The Portuguese coach lamented once again the team’s lack of goals in another big match.
“We were the better team out there, but we couldn’t score again, and that makes it hard to win games. It wasn’t a perfect match, but we were better than them. It wasn’t a bad final,” he said in his post-match remarks.
Frustration shared and future in doubt
Amorim avoided speaking directly about his future and instead chose to focus on the United supporters, expressing that they too share in the disappointment. “We had two possible outcomes, and yes, it’s a shame we didn’t make the Champions League, but on the bright side, we’ll now have more time during the week to train and focus on improving in the Premier League,” he explained.
The coach said he’s open to whatever the club decides moving forward. “All I can ask for is a bit of faith. We’ll see what happens. I’m always open to any possibility, and if the board feels I’m not the right person for the job, I’ll leave—no problem,” Amorim concluded.
