Tottenham Hotspur wins their first official trophy in 17 years after beating Manchester United in the Europa League
The wait is finally over! Tottenham Hotspur fans can celebrate big time after more than 16 years without an official title. The Spurs took home the UEFA Europa League trophy with a 1-0 win over Manchester United in the final, also securing their spot in next season’s UEFA Champions League.
The last time Tottenham lifted a trophy was on February 24, 2008, when they won the Carling Cup (now called the EFL Cup) after an intense 2-1 win in extra time against Chelsea at Wembley. That victory came under coach Juande Ramos, with heroes like Dimitar Berbatov, Robbie Keane, and Jonathan Woodgate, who scored the winning goal.
So close, but no luck... until now
Since then, the club has had strong teams and top coaches, but that long-awaited trophy kept slipping away. The Spurs faced painful losses in big finals like the 2018/19 Champions League against Liverpool and the 2020/21 EFL Cup against Manchester City.
That feeling of almost making it stuck with the club for over a decade. Even stars like Harry Kane, Son Heung-min, and Christian Eriksen couldn’t break the curse… until today.
