Romelu Lukaku Signs With Fenerbahce and the Belgian Forward Leaves Napoli and Aims for the Champions League
Romelu Lukaku is now a player for Fenerbahce.
Lukaku leaves Napoli and joins Fenerbahçe
Romelu Lukaku was announced as the new signing for Fenerbahçe after finalizing his departure from Napoli for around 6 million euros. The 33-year-old Belgian forward had an uneven season in Italy, after being key in the 2024-25 Scudetto with 14 goals, injuries limited him to just seven matches and a single goal in the following campaign.
International performance and Napoli exit
In the World Cup, Lukaku showed another side, scoring three goals and playing in all six of Belgium's matches, which reached the quarter-finals before falling to Spain. Napoli decided to let him go after securing the permanent transfer of Rasmus Hojlund, while Chelsea will receive part of the transfer fee. The Italian club is also targeting Gabriel Jesus as a possible addition.
Fenerbahçe bets big
The Turkish team is looking to make the definitive leap after being the runner-up last season. With Lukaku and other signings, they have already invested around 70 million euros. The main objective is to return to the Champions League group stage, something they haven't achieved since 2008-09, and to do so, they must overcome Lyon in the playoff that will be played next week.
