Matchday 2 of the Turkish championship brings a high-pressure matchup for Fenerbahçe. The Istanbul giants host Konyaspor at Chobani Stadyumu Fenerbahçe Şükrü Saracoğlu Spor Kompleksi with the obligation to respond after beginning the season with an unexpected defeat.

Fenerbahçe Are Under Pressure to Respond

The start of the season was far from what Fenerbahçe expected.

The Istanbul side suffered a 2-1 away defeat against Gençlerbirliği on Matchday 1, one of the biggest surprises of the opening weekend in the Süper Lig. Anderson Talisca scored the team's only goal, but it was not enough to avoid defeat.

After finishing only three points behind Galatasaray in last season's title race, beginning the new campaign by dropping all three points immediately increases the pressure.

Now they have an opportunity to respond in front of their own supporters.

The schedule does not allow for many distractions either. Fenerbahçe have another important European match just four days later, so managing their players' workload without dropping more points in the league will be one of the major challenges.

Romelu Lukaku Could Get His First Opportunity

One of the biggest names to watch will be Romelu Lukaku.

The Belgian striker was not included in the squad for the opening match against Gençlerbirliği, but beIN SPORTS reported after that game that he was expected to potentially make his first appearance against Konyaspor.

His presence could give the team a much stronger focal point inside the penalty area, especially against an opponent likely to try to close down spaces and prevent Fenerbahçe from finding room near goal.

Lukaku was one of the club's biggest additions during the transfer window, and there is plenty of anticipation surrounding the possibility of finally seeing him in the yellow and blue shirt.

Konyaspor Want to Take Advantage of the Pressure on the Hosts

Konyaspor arrive in Istanbul knowing that most of the pressure will be on the other side.

The team is coming off a difficult opening match against Rizespor, who secured the victory with a goal in the 90+7th minute. The result left Konyaspor without any points despite coming extremely close to earning a draw.

There is also a recent result that clearly favors Fenerbahçe: last May, the Istanbul side defeated Konyaspor 3-0 away from home.

However, the beginning of this season has already provided a warning for the giants of Turkish soccer. Matchday 1 was filled with surprises, and Fenerbahçe have already discovered that no match will be easy.

Both teams enter the game searching for their first points of the campaign.
