An uncertain future at San Siro

The Portuguese Rafael Leão has set off alarms in Milan once again. The 27-year-old forward admitted that he has already had talks with the management about the possibility of leaving the club this summer, although he has not yet decided what his destination will be. With a contract valid until 2028, the forward has become a key player since his arrival in 2019 from Lille, accumulating 291 matches, 80 goals, and 55 assists. His 107 direct contributions in Serie A place him sixth on the overall table since the 2019-20 season, also leading the Rossoneri in goals and assists.

The context of the team and the exit rumors

The sporting situation of Milan also doesn't help to clear up doubts. The team finished fifth in the last Serie A, missing out on the Champions League. Massimiliano Allegri was replaced by Ruben Amorim, but the uncertainty about the competitiveness of the project remains. In that context, clubs like Fenerbahce, Galatasaray, and Tottenham are linked to the forward, who does not rule out trying new horizons. "I have already spoken with the club about the possibility of trying a new experience. I don't know what will happen, I have to report to Milanello on July 29, and as long as I'm there, I will always give my best and respect the shirt that gave me everything," he declared on the Brazilian podcast Podpah, reproduced by La Gazzetta dello Sport.

Between gratitude and ambition

Leão also made it clear that his bond with Milan is deep, but that personal ambition plays a key role in his future: "It's a club that has helped me a lot in different aspects, but in life, you also have other ambitions. I will consider my options, but for now, I am still a Milan player." Meanwhile, the team is preparing for a series of pre-season friendlies against Celtic, Inter, Chelsea, and Manchester United, before debuting in Serie A on August 23 against Torino.
