José Mourinho Mocks Manchester City Over Long-Running Premier League Case

  • José Mourinho reignited the controversy surrounding Manchester City with an unexpected joke about the case that continues to keep pressure on the English club.

Mourinho Takes Aim at Manchester City Again

José Mourinho found a very particular way to address the complicated situation surrounding Manchester City. During an interview with Corriere dello Sport, the Real Madrid manager discussed the disciplinary case facing the English club and offered a reflection laced with irony.

The case is still far from being resolved, and as Manchester City prepares its defense, the wait for a final decision continues to generate debate across European football.

True to his style, Mourinho chose to see the situation with a sense of humor. But one of his comments took the controversy to another level.

“I’ll Be 80”: Mourinho Mocks the Length of the Case

“I prefer to laugh a little,” Mourinho said when discussing Manchester City. The Portuguese manager explained that there will eventually be a ruling, but pointed out that an appeal would follow, meaning the process could drag on for a considerable amount of time.

That was when he delivered his most striking line: “I’ll be 80 before the final verdict arrives". From Mourinho’s perspective, the comment sums up just how long Manchester City’s legal battle could take.

Mourinho’s remarks come after an independent commission found City guilty of 114 of 115 financial charges.

Manchester City Still Fighting to Change the Verdict

Manchester City maintains its innocence and has filed an appeal against the decision, arguing that the ruling contains significant errors and that the club has evidence to support its position.

If the original ruling is upheld, the outcome could have major sporting consequences. Possible sanctions mentioned include points deductions, fines, title stripping or even expulsion from the Premier League.

For now, none of those sanctions has been confirmed. The case remains open, and City will have to wait for the outcome of another stage in the process.

Mourinho Links the Case to Other Controversies

During the same interview, Mourinho also revisited the Negreira case from his first spell as Real Madrid manager, connecting those years to refereeing controversies that later took on a much greater significance.

The Portuguese coach also referred to his experience in Turkey, recalling another scandal involving the refereeing structure. His comments once again highlight his willingness to openly question football’s institutions.

While Manchester City remains focused on its legal defense, Mourinho has already delivered his own verdict on the situation.
