Real Madrid continues to reshape its squad ahead of the 2026-27 season, balancing incoming transfers with the need to create space on a roster that has already reached its player limit. One of the players who could leave is left-back Álvaro Carreras. The 23-year-old defender, who joined Real Madrid from Benfica just a year ago in a €50 million transfer, is now attracting serious interest from Chelsea.

The driving force behind Chelsea's pursuit is head coach Xabi Alonso. The Spanish manager knows Carreras well after working with him during his time in charge of Real Madrid, where the young full-back impressed with several strong performances.

However, Carreras' situation changed following the coaching transition. He gradually lost his place in the starting lineup, and the arrival of World Cup-winning left-back Marc Cucurella has further reduced his chances of regular playing time.

Chelsea views Carreras as an ideal replacement on the left flank after Cucurella's departure and believes the Spanish defender has the quality to thrive in the Premier League. For Real Madrid, the transfer would also make financial and sporting sense, freeing a valuable squad spot while helping fund additional reinforcements.

José Mourinho's side is still pursuing major targets, including Yan Diomandé and Rodri, making outgoing transfers just as important as new arrivals.

Although negotiations have not yet reached a final agreement, the coming weeks are expected to be crucial. If the deal is completed, Chelsea would secure a promising young full-back, Carreras would gain the opportunity for more regular minutes, and Real Madrid would gain greater flexibility to complete the remainder of its ambitious summer transfer plans.
