Paris Brunner has gone from one of Borussia Dortmund’s most exciting academy prospects to one of the standout names of the opening weeks of the 2026-27 Ligue 1 season. The 20-year-old German forward has belonged to AS Monaco since August 2024 and, after two seasons of adaptation, has finally begun to establish himself at senior level in the Principality.
Who Is Paris Brunner? Meet Monaco’s Next Big Hope
A European and world champion with Germany U-17, Paris Brunner is beginning to translate his enormous youth-level potential into senior soccer. The 20-year-old forward has three goals through the opening four rounds of the 2026-27 Ligue 1 season.
Born on February 15, 2006, Brunner developed through the academies of Rot-Weiss Essen, VfL Bochum and Borussia Dortmund. During the 2023-24 season, he recorded 21 goals and eight assists in 25 appearances for Dortmund’s U-19 side, numbers that strengthened his reputation as one of Germany’s leading young attacking talents.
AS Monaco signed him in August 2024 on a contract running through June 2028 before immediately sending him on loan to Cercle Brugge. He made 28 competitive appearances and scored six goals in Belgium. Back with Monaco, he appeared seven times in official matches during the 2025-26 campaign without scoring.
A champion and standout for Germany
Much of Brunner’s reputation was established during an extraordinary 2023 at international level. He helped Germany win the UEFA European Under-17 Championship, finishing joint-top scorer in the finals with four goals and being named Player of the Tournament by UEFA.
Months later, he played another central role at the FIFA U-17 World Cup in Indonesia. Germany won the tournament for the first time, while Brunner received the Golden Ball as its best player. He scored five goals, including a brace in the semifinal and another goal in the final against France.
His 2026-27 breakthrough
The change began during preseason. Brunner finished as Monaco’s top scorer in preparation with five goals in five appearances.
He then carried that form into the league. Brunner started each of Monaco’s first four Ligue 1 matches. After failing to score against Le Havre, he produced a brace in the 2-0 win over Olympique de Marseille at the Stade Louis-II, scoring in the 13th and 53rd minutes.
On Matchday 3, he again started in Monaco’s 2-1 victory over Paris Saint-Germain at the Parc des Princes, although he was not directly involved in either goal. Flávio Nazinho and Stanis Idumbo scored for the Monegasque side, while Brunner was replaced by Matthis Abline in the 73rd minute.
One week later, the German forward found the net again against Strasbourg. His strike from around 25 meters earned Monaco a 1-1 draw and took his tally to three goals in the opening four rounds of the 2026-27 Ligue 1 season
Why is he one of Monaco’s biggest hopes?
The excitement comes from the combination of elite youth credentials and his increasingly convincing senior performances. Brunner had already been recognized as one of the outstanding players of his generation, but the key question was whether that success could translate to top-level club soccer.
Early in 2026-27, he is beginning to provide an answer. Under Filipe Luís, Monaco remains unbeaten in Ligue 1, while Brunner has moved from long-term prospect to genuine competition for a regular attacking role. At just 20, his opening weeks suggest his development could become one of the major individual storylines of the season.
