Aubameyang Leads Marseille with Brace in Rout Over Paris FC
With two goals from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Marseille claimed their first victory of the season after defeating Paris FC 5-2 in Ligue 1’s second round.
Marseille Bounces Back with Convincing Win
After a turbulent start to the season, marked by an opening-day defeat and uncertainty surrounding Adrien Rabiot, Marseille found relief at the Stade Vélodrome with a commanding 5-2 win over Paris FC. The result gave the club its first three points of the Ligue 1 campaign.
The scoring began early. In the 18th minute, Mason Greenwood converted from the penalty spot to put Marseille ahead. Just minutes later, he set up Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang for the second goal. The Gabonese striker, who returned to the club this summer, quickly repaid the trust placed in him by delivering a crucial brace.
Paris FC, however, refused to fold. Ilan Kebbal pulled one back before the half-hour mark to make it 2-1. Then, in the 58th minute, Moses Simon struck the equalizer at 2-2, putting pressure back on the home side.
Aubameyang the Difference Maker
When the game seemed to be slipping away, Aubameyang stepped up again. In the 73rd minute, he capitalized on a goalkeeping error to fire home a low finish, restoring Marseille’s lead at 3-2.
With momentum back on their side, Marseille pressed forward. In the 80th minute, Pierre-Emile Højbjerg sealed the fourth with a powerful strike. Although Mason Greenwood missed a second penalty late in the match, he made amends by assisting Robinio Vaz, who scored the final goal to complete the 5-2 rout.
A Vital Boost for Marseille
The victory was a much-needed boost for Marseille, who had faced pressure after early struggles and ongoing transfer speculation. Aubameyang’s performance stood out not only for his two goals but also for his leadership on the field.
With this result, Marseille climbs the table with renewed confidence, while Paris FC remains without a single point after two matches.
