What's At Stake In Ligue 1's End Game?
Six teams are battling for direct qualification to next season's Champions League in a frenetic French finale.
The final two match days of the Ligue 1 season will see all games being played simultaneously. PSG's challenge for those remaining encounters will be to both avoid injuries but still stay toasty ahead of their Champions League final against Inter Milan on May 31st.
However, 11 other sides in Ligue 1 still have a huge amount to play for in the six points available that could change destinies.
PSG have clearly flourished in the competition this year, but French teams performed admirably across the board in the Champions League. Monaco, Brest and Lille all reached the knockout stages of the revamped mega-tournament. The top-three teams at the end of this season in Ligue 1 will go directly into the next edition of the Champions League, with fourth entering a qualification phase. There are five teams within two points of each other in this scrap that headlines the French season's finale.
Marseille are currently holding out in 2nd place. After a major wobble looked pending with a 3-0 loss to Monaco, Roberto de Zerbi took his team for a two-week training retreat to Italy to steady their nerves. It was mission accomplished with subsequent back-to-back wins. That leaves Marseille probably needing just a victory from Le Havre (A) and Rennes (H) to secure a top-three spot.
Riviera rivals, Monaco, are just a point behind in third spot but are facing a rougher run-in with Lyon (H) and Lens (A) shaping up to be a couple of bruising battles. They will be looking for more goals from young striking sensation, Mika Biereth, a forward who joined in the January transfer window and has banged in 13 league goals from 15 appearances.

Another Mediterrean club, Nice, are also in the running, sitting just a point behind Monaco. Nice have moved into first gear at the right time having won their past three matches. Two clubs share the same amount of points as Nice in fifth and sixth.
Lille are set to lose star striker, Jonathan David, on a free transfer but his goals could return Lille to the Champions League. But look out for Strasbourg, this season's surprise package. This young, dynamic side just beat PSG, and have lost just one league game in 19.
If the Champions League places are not possible, then this gaggle of contenders – along with Lyon who have an outside chance of a top-four finish –will be hustling for the Europa League and Conference League spots.
