Robert Lewandowski, 36, widely regarded as one of the world’s best strikers, recently faced an extraordinary proposition: a Saudi Pro League club reportedly offered him a contract exceeding €100 million per season.

According to his agent, Pini Zahavi, Lewandowski firmly rejected this lucrative deal, prioritizing sporting ambition and personal fulfillment over financial gain. 

The Polish forward, who joined Barcelona in 2022, has been a pivotal figure for the Catalan club, scoring 42 goals in 52 appearances last season and playing a critical role in Barça’s domestic treble-winning campaign.

Despite the tempting wealth, Lewandowski values competing at the highest level in Europe, embracing the chance to contend for La Liga titles and the Champions League in his remaining prime years. 

Feeling at Home in Barcelona

Zahavi succinctly echoed Lewandowski’s sentiments, emphasizing that Barcelona is “his place on earth” and where the striker feels most comfortable. The sense of belonging, combined with competitive drive, outweighed the financial allure from abroad.

Moreover, Zahavi noted roster congestion and foreign player limits in the Saudi League could complicate any possible move. 

Lewandowski’s contract with Barcelona runs until June 2026 following an automatic extension triggered by his night-in, night-out presence on the pitch. At 36 years old, he acknowledges his future depends heavily on his form and physical condition by the end of his contract term, but for now, he remains committed to the Blaugrana cause.
