Julian Alvarez Finally Speaks About the Rumors Linking Him to Barcelona
The star forward of the team led by Cholo Simeone spoke about the rumors of a possible transfer to Barcelona.
FC Barcelona seeks a striker
FC Barcelona has already identified its top priority for the upcoming transfer window: a top-tier striker who can play the number 9 position next season. And the name at the top of the list is Julián Álvarez, a star of Atlético de Madrid and 2022 World Cup champion.
The Blaugrana management believes that the Argentine fits the desired profile perfectly and, according to reports, there have already been initial contacts with Atlético de Madrid to explore the situation. Recent reports even suggest that the player's team has begun looking for housing in Barcelona, further fueling speculation.
Álvarez speaks out
Ahead of the Champions League semifinal against Arsenal, Álvarez was asked about the rumors and chose to downplay them:
“I try not to give too much importance to what people say, because the truth is that every week, new things appear, all kinds of information,” he stated, as quoted by Fabrizio Romano.
The striker added: “I prefer not to waste energy on that and to focus on what we are doing here at Atleti.” And when the press pressed him, he was adamant: “I can't go out and clarify or deny everything that gets published, because it ends up being a snowball of lies."
Buyout-proof contract
Álvarez joined Atlético in 2024 from Manchester City and signed a contract through 2030, with a buyout clause of $585 million. Aware of the interest he is generating, the Rojiblancas' management is already working on further extending his contract to ensure the continuity of their top scorer.
Thus, while Barcelona has identified him as its top target, Madrid is looking to lock down its star player. The drama is just beginning and promises some intense episodes in the coming weeks.
