Julián Álvarez Reports to Atlético de Madrid: Is a Departure Now Off the Table?
The Argentine striker is on the radar of several clubs. What do we know about his future so far?
Argentine striker Julián Álvarez is back with Atlético de Madrid.
“La Araña” reported for duty on Monday, completed his medical tests and is moving toward a return to training, amid uncertainty over his future. His return is a sign of normality, although a key conversation with Diego Simeone is still pending.
Julián Álvarez Reports Back to Atlético
The Argentine forward visited Hospital Universitario Vithas Madrid Arturo Soria to undergo the traditional fitness tests alongside Marcos Llorente and Álex Baena.
Álvarez is under contract with Atlético until 2030 and has a €500 million release clause, equivalent to around $578 million.
His presence also helps prevent, for now, a more tense situation between the player and the club.
Álvarez had left the door open to a potential departure during the World Cup, but he reported for duty and fulfilled his obligations as an Atlético player.
Barcelona and Real Madrid Continue to Monitor Álvarez
Barcelona remain interested in Julián Álvarez and are believed to have made an offer of around €100 million, or approximately $116 million, but Atlético are not willing to accept that figure. The club’s position has been firm: they do not want to negotiate the striker’s departure.
Real Madrid have also entered the picture. In June, the Spanish giants reportedly made an offer of €150 million, around $173 million, but Atlético rejected the proposal and pointed to the player’s release clause. The move was also effectively ruled out.
Simeone Still Views Julián Álvarez as a Key Player
The next chapter will come on Wednesday, when Álvarez could finally meet with Simeone. The Argentine coach considers the striker a central piece of his project, and Atlético want him to refocus on the team’s work.
For now, Álvarez’s return and medical tests have cooled the possibility of an immediate departure, although they have not ruled it out completely. Barcelona remain interested, while Atlético continue to insist that they have no intention of selling him. The meeting between Julián Álvarez and Simeone will be crucial in determining whether “La Araña” remains a key figure at Atlético or once again becomes one of the main names in the transfer market.
