Joan Laporta Joins Forces With Javier Tebas Ahead of El Clásico and Accuses Real Madrid of Trying to Destroy LaLiga
Joan Laporta backed Javier Tebas amid the institutional feud with Real Madrid and launched a scathing accusation against the Spanish giants. His comments come in a week dominated by PSG and El Clásico.
The president of FC Barcelona, Joan Laporta, weighed in on the conflict between Javier Tebas and Real Madrid during his visit to Seville, where he attended a board luncheon ahead of the match against Real Betis. His remarks once again brought the institutional rivalry between Barcelona and Real Madrid into the spotlight.
With the match against the Verdiblancos now in the rearview mirror and an important week ahead, Laporta made his position on the dispute between the Spanish giants and the country’s football authorities clear. The Barcelona president not only defended the head of LaLiga, but also questioned what he sees as Real Madrid’s approach toward the governing bodies of Spanish football.
“They Want to Tear Everything Apart”: Laporta Accuses Real Madrid
“It seems they want to tear everything apart, they want to tear LaLiga apart, they want to tear apart the Technical Committee of Referees,” Laporta said, according to Mundo Deportivo. The Barcelona president also pointed to Real Madrid’s disagreements with the Spanish Football Federation.
Laporta praised Javier Tebas for his experience in dealing with such controversies, insisting that the LaLiga president is prepared to face the criticism coming from the Spanish giants. He also criticized what he considers a persistent confrontational approach toward the institutions governing Spanish football.
The Feud Between Tebas and Real Madrid Escalates
Laporta’s remarks came after Tebas strongly criticized the editorial line of Real Madrid TV, prompting a response from the club, which demanded the immediate resignation of the LaLiga president.
According to ESPN Deportes, José Manuel Rodríguez Uribes, president of Spain’s National Sports Council, said Tebas should apologize to Real Madrid for his comments. Amid the exchange, Laporta publicly backed the LaLiga chief and called on the Spanish giants to engage in self-reflection.

PSG and El Clásico: Barcelona Faces a Crucial Week
With the Real Betis fixture now behind them, Barcelona’s attention turns to its upcoming challenges: a trip to face Paris Saint-Germain and the highly anticipated El Clásico against Real Madrid. The institutional dispute adds further tension to a demanding week, with the performances on the pitch and the statements made by club officials keeping the spotlight on Spanish football’s two biggest rivals.
