According to RAC1, the club expects to receive authorization to increase capacity to approximately 70,000 or 72,000 spectators during the first months of 2027.
Camp Nou to Surpass 70,000 Spectators in 2027
Barcelona’s return to Camp Nou was only the beginning. While the team gets used to playing at home again, construction work continues and the stadium is preparing to take another major step forward in terms of capacity.
The stadium can currently welcome 62,652 fans after the Barcelona City Council granted the corresponding license for Phase 1C of the redevelopment project. That stage allowed the North Goal section to open, along with new VIP and hospitality areas.
The next objective will be to add around 10,000 more seats while construction continues in other areas of the stadium.
The New Camp Nou Continues to Grow in Stages
The stadium’s transformation has forced Barcelona to reopen its home progressively rather than wait until the entire project is completed.
The new Camp Nou is ultimately expected to have a capacity of approximately 104,600 spectators, a figure that will once again place it among the largest soccer stadiums in Europe.
For now, surpassing the 70,000 mark during 2027 would represent another important step toward that goal.
Construction work still includes different areas of the third tier, interior facilities and other elements of the Espai Barça project, meaning the stadium will continue to change even while hosting matches.
The 2029 Champions League Final Is Already Heading to Camp Nou
The progress of the redevelopment has taken on even greater significance following a decision by UEFA.
European soccer’s governing body confirmed on September 15 that Camp Nou will host the 2029 Champions League final, after Barcelona competed with London and Wembley Stadium during the selection process.
The match is scheduled for June 2, 2029, and will mark the return of European club soccer’s biggest final to the stadium three decades after it last hosted the event.
Camp Nou has previously staged two European Cup/Champions League finals: the 1989 edition and the historic 1999 showdown between Manchester United and Bayern Munich.
Now, it will host a third.
By then, Barcelona intends to have the stadium’s transformation fully completed and the venue operating at its projected final capacity.
But another milestone will come first.
From its current capacity of 62,652 spectators, Camp Nou is expected to surpass 70,000 in early 2027, another step in a redevelopment project that continues to move forward while soccer has already returned home.
