Bernardo Silva Warns Real Madrid Ahead of El Clásico: “Let’s Not Kid Ourselves”

  • The Portuguese midfielder celebrated his first Real Madrid goal against RB Leipzig but warned that the team still has plenty to fix before facing Barcelona.

Bernardo Silva Scores His First Goal but Is Not Fooled by the 4-1

Real Madrid’s emphatic win over RB Leipzig made it a special night for Bernardo Silva. The Portuguese midfielder scored his first goal in a white shirt and helped seal the 4-1 Champions League victory, but his post-match assessment was far from euphoric.

Bernardo admitted the team struggled much more than the scoreline suggested, especially during a first half in which Thibaut Courtois had to make several important interventions to keep Madrid in control of the game.

“I’m very happy to have won this match and scored my first goal in this shirt. It was a difficult match; we were much better in the second half than in the first,” the midfielder explained.

The Balance Real Madrid Are Still Searching For

Beyond the result, Bernardo focused on one of the biggest challenges still facing José Mourinho’s side: finding a way to control games without taking away the individual freedom of its attacking players.

“It’s difficult to strike a balance between controlling the game and not being a boring team,” he admitted. The Portuguese midfielder highlighted that Madrid have players who are aggressive in one-on-one situations, capable of beating defenders and constantly attacking space.

For Bernardo, the challenge is combining that direct style with greater control of the tempo. Keeping possession when necessary without losing intensity or attacking ambition.

The First Goal Matters Less Than the Team

The Portuguese midfielder also made clear that opening his Real Madrid account does not change the way he views the team’s current situation. Bernardo believes Madrid are still developing and that the priority is to reach the final months of the season with a genuine chance of competing for every trophy.

“We need to keep winning game by game so that, in the last three or four months, we can be in the running for trophies, which is what this club demands of you,” he said.

Bernardo is not demanding a starring role either. His message was simple: he is ready to help for one, five, 10 or 90 minutes, because a title-winning team needs far more than two or three players capable of making the difference.

“Let’s Not Kid Ourselves”: El Clásico Already Matters

After Leipzig, all attention now turns elsewhere. The next major test is Barcelona, in an El Clásico that could already have significant consequences in LaLiga despite the season still being in its early stages.

“It’s an important match; let’s not kid ourselves,” Bernardo warned, fully aware that the result could dramatically alter the gap between the two teams in the standings.

The Portuguese midfielder wants Madrid to carry the confidence from the 4-1 win into the Clásico, but with one clear message: the scoreline against Leipzig cannot hide the mistakes. Against Barcelona, finding the balance Bernardo keeps talking about could prove decisive.
