When will Carlo Ancelotti make his debut as Brazil coach?
The wait is over. Carlo Ancelotti, one of the most successful managers in football history, will make his official debut as Brazil's head coach on June 6 against Ecuador in a crucial South American World Cup Qualifier. His arrival signals a fresh start for the Seleção, who are aiming to get back to the top with a world-class leader at the helm.
A move in the making
The Italian coach will land in Rio de Janeiro on May 26, and just a few days later, he’ll announce his first squad list. Without much of a break after finishing his spell at Real Madrid, Ancelotti will take charge for two key qualifiers: the first away in Guayaquil versus Ecuador, and the second on June 10 in São Paulo against Paraguay—his first match in front of the home fans.
This wasn’t a last-minute move. The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) had been working on the deal since 2023, finally locking him in with a contract through the 2026 World Cup, with an option to extend to 2030. According to CBF president Ednaldo Rodrigues, Ancelotti’s appointment is “a message to the world” that Brazil means business again.
A new challenge, same ambition
Even though he's leaving behind a trophy-laden legacy at Real Madrid—15 titles in total—this new adventure is something entirely different: guiding a talented but underperforming national team back to glory. His experience managing big names will be vital in getting Brazil back on track.
Interestingly, Ancelotti won’t have his son and long-time assistant Davide Ancelotti by his side this time, as Davide is set to pursue his own coaching path. At 65, the Italian tactician takes on this major challenge with the same drive and ambition that’s defined his career.
The Ancelotti era is about to kick off—and with it, the hope that Brazil's golden days might be on their way back.
