Real Madrid Bids Farewell to Modric: This is How Cristiano Ronaldo, Vinícius Jr. and More Reacted to The Departure of The Croatian Legend
The countdown has begun for the final days of Luka Modric as a Real Madrid player. The Croatian captain announced that he will leave the club after the Club World Cup in the United States, putting an end to a golden era that spanned over a decade and delivered 28 titles.
The midfielder will play his last match at the Santiago Bernabéu this Saturday against Real Sociedad, in what promises to be an emotional farewell. "The time has come. The moment I never wanted to arrive, but such is football. Life has a beginning and an end... On Saturday, I will play my last match at the Santiago Bernabéu," Modric wrote on social media.
Signed in 2012 from Tottenham, Modric quickly became a key figure in the most successful era of the club, winning six Champions Leagues, six Club World Cups, five UEFA Super Cups, four La Liga titles, two Copa del Rey trophies, and five Spanish Super Cups. Individually, he won the Ballon d'Or in 2018 and multiple UEFA and FIFA awards.
A wave of tributes from teammates and legends
Modric’s departure has touched the hearts of both fans and former and current teammates, who flooded social media with emotional messages. One of the most heartfelt came from Rodrygo Goes, who has always seen Modric as a father figure at the club. "Dad. Today is a very sad day for me and for all Madridistas," the Brazilian wrote. "It’s hard to express what you mean to me. Your class, leadership, and fight marked me forever."
Vinícius Junior also shared a touching farewell: "Your story in Madrid is incomparable. Your football was art. Your generosity was a daily gift. I will miss you. Thank you for everything, Maestro."
Jude Bellingham highlighted Modric’s humility and influence during their time together: "Brate, thank you for every pass, every dribble, every goal—but above all, thank you for every conversation, hug, dinner, and piece of advice."
Even former teammates like Cristiano Ronaldo and Isco didn’t miss the opportunity to send their regards. "Thank you for everything, Luka! It was an honor to share so many moments with you at the club," said the Portuguese star. Isco added, "You earned the love of every stadium you played in with your football and personality. You’re great, my friend!"

President Florentino Pérez confirmed that the club will honor Modric this Saturday. "Luka’s legacy will remain forever. He’s a unique and exemplary player who has always represented the values of Real Madrid."
With his departure, Luka Modric leaves not just as a legend of Real Madrid, but as one of the greatest midfielders in football history.
