Switzerland thrashed Jordan 4-1 in a World Cup warm-up match that saw the final whistle blown twice, amid stormy conditions in St. Gallen.

In Switzerland's final match before flying out to San Diego for their World Cup camp, referee Rohit Saggi blew the final whistle with 88 minutes played as heavy rain teemed down.

Some players completed interviews with broadcasters and the Switzerland team did a lap of appreciation before it was announced that the final few minutes would be played, following a 15-minute delay.

The final whistle was then blown for a second time after the 90 minutes were completed, with Switzerland recording a comfortable victory as they build towards their Group B opener against Qatar on June 13. 

Dan Ndoye, Breel Embolo and Granit Xhaka – the latter duo both from the penalty spot – were on target in the first half, with Odeh Fakhoury pulling one back for Jordan early in the second period.

Substitute Christian Fassnacht added a fourth goal in the 79th minute for Murat Yakin's team, who will face Australia in their final pre-tournament friendly in the United States.

Elsewhere, Cape Verde warmed up for their World Cup debut with a 3-0 rout of a below-strength Serbia, who were without a host of big names including Aleksandar Mitrovic, Dusan Vlahovic, Sergej Milinkovic-Savic and Filip Kostic. 

There was also a friendly win for Czechia, who are in Group A at the World Cup, as Tomas Ladra and Adam Hlozek netted in a 2-1 victory over Kosovo.

Switzerland were good value for their win over fellow World Cup qualifiers Jordan, who will face holders Argentina, as well as Austria and Algeria, in Group J.

The hosts fired off 19 shots that amounted to 4.07 expected goals (xG), compared to their opponents' 12 shots and 1.35 xG.

Yakin will also be encouraged to see some of his big names on the scoresheet, including Embolo. He was one of only five players to score multiple goals at both the 2022 World Cup and Euro 2024, along with Harry Kane, Kai Havertz, Niclas Fullkrug and Cody Gakpo.
