Germany's Undav insists injury in friendly is 'nothing serious'
Germany forward Deniz Undav scored twice in their World Cup warm-up game against Finland before suffering an injury scare on Sunday.
Germany striker Deniz Undav revealed his injury is "nothing serious" after he suffered a knock in their World Cup warm-up against Finland on Sunday.
Undav was handed a rare start for Germany, with Kai Havertz yet to join up with the national team, and the Stuttgart forward took his chance as he scored twice and provided an assist in a 4-0 win.
He hit the target with all four of his attempts, while only Joshua Kimmich and Lennart Karl (four each) created more chances than Undav (three).
The 29-year-old scored the opener before assisting Florian Wirtz for Germany's second, though he suffered the injury while scoring his second goal in the 57th minute.
However, Undav insisted his injury is nothing to worry about, with Germany's World Cup campaign starting June 14 against Curacao.
"I had a bit of pain, but nothing serious," Undav told ZDF in a post-match interview.
"Everything’s fine, a few days of treatment and then it will be OK."
And when asked whether his performance could lead to a starting role in the World Cup, Undav added: "That’s for the national team coach to decide.
"I did my job well [against Finland] and last time as well.
"[It was] a 10-out-of-10 evening. A good evening, we won the game, I contributed to three goals. It couldn't have gone better."
Germany have now won each of their last eight games since losing their opening game in World Cup qualifying against Slovakia (2-0).
Julian Nagelsmann's side will face the United States in one last friendly on June 6 before their World Cup opener.
On their win over Finland, the Germany boss said: "The boys executed the game plan very well, we started very well, the first 15 minutes were very good.
"In the second half we also defended deeper at times, and then we also scored on the counter-attack, which does us good.
"The result is good, we didn’t concede, so we can continue like this."
