Carlo Ancelotti Keeps Faith in Estêvão Despite Limited Playing Time at Chelsea
Estêvão has struggled for playing time at Chelsea, but Carlo Ancelotti isn't giving up on the 19-year-old. The Brazil coach explained why the winger remains firmly in his plans.
Estêvão has struggled to secure regular playing time at Chelsea, but that hasn't changed Carlo Ancelotti's plans for the young winger. The 19-year-old Brazilian has played a limited role at Stamford Bridge this season, yet he remains part of the national team's future and has been included in the squad for November's friendlies against Japan and Singapore.

Speaking after announcing his 26-man squad, Ancelotti made it clear that Brazil and Chelsea have different priorities. While the Premier League club must make decisions based on its immediate needs, the Italian coach is focused on helping Estêvão develop into a key player for his country.
"If he doesn't play a single minute at Chelsea, we'll keep an eye on him until the day we think he's no longer useful for the national team," Ancelotti said, insisting that a lack of club appearances will not automatically cost the youngster his place.
How Much Has He Played at Chelsea?
Estêvão has found opportunities difficult to come by in England. According to figures published by ge.globo, the winger has played just 172 of the 990 available minutes at Chelsea this season, approximately 17.3% of the total.
In the Premier League, the Brazilian has featured as a substitute in all six of his appearances, entering after the 80th minute on five occasions. His limited involvement has raised questions about his development, particularly as Ancelotti looks to build a younger Brazil national team.
But the Italian isn't ready to lose patience. "We'll keep an eye on him, giving him the opportunity to progress normally, as is necessary for a 19-year-old," he explained, emphasizing that the winger's long-term potential matters more than his current situation.

The Unexpected Upside of Limited Minutes
Ancelotti also addressed the situation of Endrick, who has faced similar challenges finding regular playing time at Real Madrid. The Brazil coach acknowledged that both youngsters would benefit from more opportunities at club level, but he also pointed out an advantage ahead of the international break.
"Obviously, Estêvão or Endrick would be better off having minutes to develop," Ancelotti admitted. "But we can also say, in a positive way, that they arrive fresh, they are not tired. They can perform well with the national team."
For Ancelotti, the challenge is finding the right balance between giving young players the experience they need and keeping Brazil competitive. Their lack of accumulated playing time could also leave them physically fresher than teammates who have been playing regularly throughout the season.
A Fresh Opportunity With Brazil
Estêvão's inclusion comes as Ancelotti accelerates his rebuilding project. Fifteen of the 26 players selected for November's international fixtures are under 23, reflecting the coach's commitment to developing a new generation.
Brazil will face Japan on November 14 and Singapore on November 17, with both matches taking place at Singapore's National Stadium. The friendlies offer Estêvão another chance to show what he can bring to the national team while continuing to fight for a bigger role at Stamford Bridge.
Ancelotti's message is clear: Estêvão doesn't need to be a regular starter at Chelsea to remain in Brazil's plans. As long as the coach believes in his ability to contribute, the young winger will continue to have opportunities to prove himself.
