Spain’s Plan to Recover Lamine Yamal
The injury to Lamine Yamal in LaLiga raised alarms in Spain. The young forward will miss the remainder of the domestic season, and at first there were fears that his participation in the upcoming World Cup could be in jeopardy. However, during the presentation of his biography, national team coach Luis de la Fuente offered a more optimistic outlook and detailed the plan to help the player recover ahead of the international tournament.
The coach explained that they are closely monitoring the player’s progress, as he currently undergoes rehabilitation at the FC Barcelona training complex. “He trains three hours a day, goes to the gym, sees the physiotherapist, nutritionist, and psychologist… he is thinking about his work 24/7. Nobody gives anything to Lamine Yamal,” said Luis de la Fuente, highlighting the forward’s commitment.
A Gradual Return With a Strategic Role
Since the moment of the injury, both the coaching staff of FC Barcelona and the Spain national team agreed on the need to avoid rushing his return. The main objective is for him to complete a proper recovery process, prioritizing his physical condition in order to arrive in the best possible shape for the World Cup. Although a positive evolution is expected, caution remains regarding his involvement in the opening matches.
The plan, as revealed by Luis de la Fuente, is to initially use Lamine Yamal as an impact substitute, coming off the bench to provide energy and creativity. The coach compared this potential role to the one played by Dani Olmo during the UEFA European Championship: “There are players who can give you 20 minutes, and that is incredibly valuable. Dani Olmo arrived injured, we were close to ruling him out, but he ended up being decisive.”
The idea is for Lamine Yamal to progress gradually and, as the tournament advances, reach his best level and potentially establish himself as a starter in the decisive stages. For now, he is not expected to feature in the friendlies against Iraq and Peru, as he will continue focusing on his recovery.
His possible return could come in the opening World Cup match against Cape Verde, with limited minutes, or in the clash against Saudi Arabia. Everything will depend on his evolution and the team’s needs. The priority is clear: no risks will be taken with one of the most promising and decisive players in Spain.
