Neymar Set to Miss the World Cup: Ancelotti Drops Him From Brazil’s Plans
An era is ending in Brazil. Everything suggests that Neymar will never wear the Canarinha shirt at a World Cup again.
The End of a World Cup Dream
According to several Brazilian outlets, Neymar’s time with the Brazilian national team appears to be coming to an end. The Al-Hilal forward, still struggling to fully recover from his injuries, is reportedly not in Carlo Ancelotti’s plans for the 2026 World Cup.
Journalist Rodrigo Mattos from UOL revealed that the Italian coach has definitively ruled out the Brazilian star, believing he is not physically ready to compete at the highest level. In Brazil’s latest squad list, Ancelotti opted for a tactical system in which Neymar has no place, signaling a clear shift in direction.
A Body That No Longer Responds
Fellow UOL journalist Pedro Lopes supported this version, explaining that Ancelotti’s staff has been closely monitoring Neymar’s progress:
“Ancelotti’s team, which is tracking Neymar, believes his physical performance is far below what is currently required for the national team. He would need a significant improvement over the next few months to have any chance of going to the World Cup.”
Constant injuries, a lack of rhythm, and a long recovery from his ligament tear have made it difficult for Neymar to return to his best form. He hasn’t played for Brazil since 2023.
An Inevitable Goodbye
Although some voices within Brazilian football have suggested calling him up as a substitute, the idea doesn’t seem feasible. Beyond his high salary, few believe Neymar would accept a secondary role.
Everything points to the end of an era for the Brazilian superstar. The 2026 World Cup, which could have been his redemption, now seems out of reach. And so, Neymar says goodbye to the stage he once dreamed of conquering.
